How does a bike change a life? Ask the over 1600 youth who have completed the Bike Workshop and they’ll tell you: it’s more than just a bike.
Bike Workshop participants work with volunteer mentors to build a bike from frame to finish. Along the way, youth learn repairs and maintenance and how to navigate our city safely. But they’re also learning something deeper—problem solving, patience, and the sense of pride that comes with seeing a project through to the end.
After completing the program, youth keep the bike they’ve built, along with a safety helmet, took kit and a newfound opportunity for healthy living and the ability to explore beyond their neighborhood. Youth also take a pledge to pass on their new skills to help others in their community.
Bicycles are donated from members of the community.
