Oasis College Connection
OCC Mentors joined 87 MNPS students and the Gear Up Tennessee team at Belmont University for a week-long immersive camp to kick off their summer programming. For many students, this was their first time on a college campus, and it allowed space for them to dream about what college might be like. Youth toured the campus, met with professors, stayed in the dorms, and debated whether the Bell Tower was haunted.
The young people had fun making new friends while learning about various programs and majors, applying for scholarships, and practicing talking with their loved ones about their dreams of attending college.
Other OCC summer activities included weekly college tours, worksite visits, and workshops. They also met with Power Youth cohorts to discuss their internship and college experiences, both in group settings and one-on-on.
