Oasis College Connection Goes Back to School
Oasis College Connection (OCC) is Nashville's largest college access program for low-income, New American, and first-generation college students, serving around 1,500 young people annually. We've started the new school year strong with several activities for young people.
OCC participated in the MNPS College & Career Expo at the Southeast Community Center in Antioch on September 9. More than 100 colleges, universities, and other support programs were there to share resources on scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, career opportunities, and more to students.
OCC and GEAR UP Nashville also co-hosted orientation on the Oasis Resource Centers on Nashville State Community College's Main and Southeast campuses. They provided information to new students on FAFSA assistance, course registration, parking pass/school ID issuance, and other resources to ensure that incoming students were prepared for their first day of college. Between the two sessions, OCC staff served a total of 41 first time freshmen.
In addition, the OCC team has been collaborating with our high school partners to ensure that every eligible student has the opportunity to sign up for TN Promise (a grant that helps cover two free years at a community college or trade school) before the deadline on November 1.
