Bike Workshop Interns display their hand painted bikes at the Coop Gallery.
Bike Workshop interns hit the ground running from day one! During the first week of summer program, interns selected their own bike from our basement storage of donated bikes. They stripped the paint down, before priming and designing their main source of transportation for the next month. After spraying and adding a clear coat, they learned how to reassemble and ride.
During the second week, two of our Mountain Bike Team alums, Logan and Terrence, returned to show interns a few tricks on their bikes. For many interns, it was their first time riding off road. Interns then used the skills they learned to pay it forward by fixing up eighteen bikes for Aventura Community School and by patching up the shared bikes at Watkins Community Center.
The third week was all about photography. They learned skills from DaShawn, a local Nashville artist and longtime Oasis friend. Using disposable cameras, interns adventured around the city to scope out shots and have fun strengthening their cycling knowledge and skills.
Finally, the camp culminated in an Art Show at Coop Gallery where the youth displayed their hand-painted bikes, photography, and several personal art pieces!
