Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project
“I thought for sure that my golden ticket out of homelessness was graduating from college or getting a good job. It was neither. It was actually signing my first lease to my first apartment on Aug. 2, 2017 that got me out of homelessness."
Alesha, is a member of the Youth Action Board, who has been meeting weekly for the past six months to advise Nashville's response to Youth Homelessness. She shared her story during the August 13th Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP) announcement. If you missed the announcement, watch the coverage HERE on WTVF, Channel 5.
YHDP is bringing $1.7M a year to Nashville to serve youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. It is by far the biggest opportunity we have had as a city to move forward our goal of ending youth homelessness by making it rare, brief and one-time.
While this is the biggest opportunity in the history of Nashville to address youth homelessness, we recognize that YHDP, in and of itself, is not going to end youth homelessness. It is a giant first step and we could not be more excited about it, but we need the community's help. Click HERE for ways to help.
