Winter Storm Fern Support
Thank you to everyone who supported our young people over Winter Storm Fern! The week before, we sent out an ask for funds and materials to prepare our young people experiencing homelessness before the extreme cold hit. Within 24 hours, we began to receive hand warmers, emergency blankets, and more. We also raised over $3,000 in immediate funds to provide services and supplies.
Our Outreach Center stayed open most of the week to provide food, snack packs, and winter needs, as well as resources for a warm place to sleep. Once it was safe to do so, a team of four staff members spent three hours canvassing. During this trip, they shared backpacks of food, water, hand warmers, emergency blankets, and more.
Another goal was to direct folks who were unhoused to a warming shelter during the life-threatening cold and to do wellness checks to determine any urgent needs such as frostbite.
We are grateful to our community who join us in keeping our young people safe through weather emergencies!
